I moved to Spain in 2005 with my wife Jude and our two children, Angel and Belanna. We had both spent time in Spain before we met and the climate, culture and family focused lifestyle really appealed to both of us.
Over the years, I have grown to love Spain and its eclectic mix of peoples, languages, cultures and traditions. Both Jude and I wanted to give our children the chance to grow up in a multilingual environment, away from the tourist trail, so here we are within easy reach of Valencia, Spain's third largest city. As a family we enjoy being part of the local community and we love to participate in Valencia's regional Fallas fiesta. We also love spending time in the great outdoors and are lucky to live very close to the Sierra Calderona natural park where we often go walking.
I first came to Spain with the goal of establishing and promoting the IRATA training and certification scheme in Spain, in Spanish. With this in mind, I launched Spain's first IRATA certified training school here in Valencia, before moving on to become an independent examiner and expert in rope access operations, most recently in the global wind energy sector.
I decided to buy a camper at the beginning of the pandemic so that I could continue to offer an essential assessment service in Spain at a time when all the airports, hotels and restaurants were closed. It's a completely self-contained home-from-home that's proved to be ideal for my work as an assessor and blade repair technician in Iberia and the Pyrenees.
For me personally there's no better feeling of freedom than free flying. I first discovered paragliding whilst on holiday in Switzerland and I now love to fly here in Spain as often as I can.
